RVA Playlist #122: Let's Move Forward
A night of the future of Richmond's music scene with new tunes from Will Overman, Ramona and the Holy Smokes, The Mitras and The Auricular's 7th Anniversary Party
I’m excited to share that I will be part of Style Weekly’s FWD:RVA, a curated week of arts and culture programming designed to spotlight the creative energy driving Richmond forward. Each night of the week focuses on a different discipline and on Oct. 9, I’ll be hosting a panel on the future of music in Richmond.
My guests include:
Doug Nunnally, Founder, The Auricular
Tyler Meacham, Singer-songwriter and founder of the Anyfolk concert series
Madi Thompson, Sound engineer, curator, and multimedia artist
Brice Maddox (DJ B-Rice), DJ and producer
Together, we’ll explore the local music scene from emerging artists and new ways to creative communites to roadblocks and challenges of working within the scence. Audience members are encouraged ask questions and share in the conversation. Plus, we’ll also have live performances from Tyler Meacham, Dead Billionaires and Hot Lava. I’m very excited to be hosting this event and grateful to Style for giving me the opportunity for a great discussion.
Speaking of Style Weekly, I’ve also had a bunch of articles out in the past month covering a variety of local topics, including:
My look at new local music coming out this fall, which was featured in the Fall Arts Preview.
Talking horror movies with Victims and Villains, a multimedia nonprofit dedicated to deconstructing the stigma surrounding mental health through pop culture and horror.
Alt-rock band The Mitras playing its final show this Saturday at The Braodberry before calling it quits.
Will Overman taking an introspective look on his new record “Stranger,” which comes out today. And a special in-store performance later today at Plan 9 Music.
And talking about a few things to do this weekend, with pieces on The Auricular’s 7th Anniversary Show and Virginia Pridefest.
AND speaking of The Auricular’s 7th Anniversary Party, founder Doug Nunnally has gathered an assortment of excellent local artists to perform including Bucko, Flora and the Fauna, Artschool and The Potted Plants. Plus, the first 100 people will receive a complimentary t-shirt!
Also, this evening is the album release show for honky-tonk country group Ramona and the Holy Smokes. They’ll be celebrating at Get Tight Lounge.
Plus, tonight (7-9pm), I’ll be back hosting “The Commonwealth of Notions” on WRIR 97.3FM, where I’ll be playing a bunch of stuff to kick off your weekend - including a lot of what I’ve shared here!
I’m going to be so tired after this weekend, but it’s definitely worth it.
